October

Bali:

October marks the end of the dry season in Bali but the rainfall is still very limited and the sun never far away. This is one of the quieter months of the year on the island's beaches with an average temperature of 31°C and lower humidity. An excellent month for a visit.

Cambodia:

The showers this month are short and sharp so take advantage of the low visitor numbers and head for Angkor Wat where the lush vegetation adds another dimension to your experience. The coast is also drying out at this time and the beaches relatively quiet. October comes at the end of Cambodia's wet season so is not a good time to visit remote parts of the country where road conditions deteriorate.

The country's biggest festival, Bon Om Tuk, is held in early November or late October. It celebrates the end of the rainy season as the Tonle Sap river changes direction and heads back towards the Mekong.

September/October is the time of year for the P'Chum Ben Festival during which respect is paid to the dead via offerings left with the monks at the temples.

Hong Kong:

October is a fine month to visit Hong Kong as the rainy season draws to a close, humidity levels drop and residents enjoy an average daytime temperature of 28°C. Enjoy the sunshine at the beach or on a trip up the Peak.

Laos:

October is an excellent month to visit Laos as the wet season gives way to the cooler dry season and the countryside reveals itself at its most verdant. The cities remain very warm during the day and river and road travel become easier again.

Malaysia:

October is a wet month across the country although temperatures are still high and the sun will make long appearances between the showers.

Hari Raya Puasa marks the end of the Islamic month of Ramadam and Muslims in Malaysia head off to their families in September or October to feast and celebrate.

Myanmar:

The rainy season is coming to an end and the daily temperatures are pleasantly warm so this represents a good month to visit.

The Philippines

The wet weather is starting to move away and the humidity is dropping so this is a much more comfortable month to visit. Island-hopping is back on the agenda.

Singapore:

October is a transitional period between the drier summer days and the monsoon rains of winter so an excellent time to visit the city as the humidity is becoming easier to live with but there is still plenty of sunshine on offer between the showers.

Don't miss the lantern parades of the Mid-Autumn Festival in September or October.

Head to Little India in October/November as the Hindu festival of Deepavali (Diwali) celebrates the victory of Light over Dark.

Thailand:

October is the transitional month when the wet summer gives way to the dry winter across most of the country. The peak tourist season is not yet underway so this is an excellent month to find quieter beaches and resorts. Rain showers could still be quite dramatic along the west coast and the gulf but the northern hills are now emerging from their summer clouds and Bangkok is beginning to dry out.

Vietnam:

Drier, cooler weather is moving in to the north of the country while the rain showers continue on the central coast with plenty of sunshine in between. The south is wet and humid throughout the south.
