August

Bali:

August is peak tourist season on the island as temperatures hit a steady 30-32°C, humidity dips and there is very little rain. The beaches are busier this month as tourists flock to the warm tropical seas and cool themselves in a sea breeze. The dry spell provides visitors with an excellent opportunity to explore the island's hilly interior and even take a trek up the volcanic Gunung Batur.

August 17 is Independence Day across Indonesia as people remember the country's long struggle against its Dutch rulers, which ended in 1945. Government offices and schools are closed.

Cambodia:

August is one of the wetter months in the Cambodian calendar but rain here never lasts for longer than a couple of hours. The Angkor complex has a very different atmosphere at this time of year as visitor numbers are at their lowest and the moats full of water. The Cambodian coast is not at its best in August, and the sea can be rough if you are trying to visit the nearby islands, but you'll still see the sun.

Hong Kong:

August is the hottest, stickiest month in Hong Kong as the weather has warmed up to an average of 31°C during the day and the monsoon rains are falling across the region. The days are humid in the city but there is plenty of sunshine on offer between the showers, making the beaches and excellent spot to head for during the day. Tropical storms are a possibility.

Laos:

August is the wettest month in Laos, and the showers can be heavy at times, but they never last long and the sun soon returns. Travel around the country is more difficult in the wet season, especially in the mountains and the far south. Temperatures remain high throughout the month.

Malaysia:

A good month to visit Kuala Lumpur. There may be showers across the country but this is a dry, warm season on the east coast and resorts are busy.

Myanmar:

The rainy season has arrived across the country making travel difficult and the sea very choppy.

The Philippines

The wettest month but you will still see plenty of sunshine between the heavy showers.

Singapore:

August is a hot and relatively dry month on the island but humidity is high so spend as much time as you can in air-conditioned buildings or on the beach.

Thailand:

A good month to visit the beaches of the gulf. On the Andaman Sea coast the rains will be heavy at times and the same goes for the northern hills and Bangkok.

Vietnam:

A great month for visiting the Vietnamese central coast. The monsoon rains bring showers and high humidity to the north and south but there is still plenty of sunshine between the wet periods. Temperatures are at their summer peak in Hanoi.
