Singapore Holidays

We started our holiday in Singapore with a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel where they were first invented. We ate peanuts and threw the shells on the floor! Don't worry, that's customary! The following days were spent wandering around the many places of interest in the city; shopping on Orchard Avenue; relaxing at a wine bar in Clarke Quay; and shopping (again) in bustling Little India. We spent a total of 5 nights here before going onto the jungles of Borneo in Malaysia. Lhs quote close

Occupying a unique position in the modern world as an island, country and city rolled into one, Singapore is a tropical metropolis with plenty of historic charm. It's a great place to visit throughout the year due to its constant climate, but the best time for a holiday in Singapore is in February for the spectacular Thaipusam Festival or April for the Food Festival. This city-state is so much more than just a stopover destination between flights. Stay a few days and get to know this dynamo of the Orient.

Singapore lies a degree or so above the equator in the South China Sea off the southern tip of Malaysia. Founded as a trading post for the East India Company in 1819, the opium dens and barges of yesteryear have vanished and been replaced with sleek skyscrapers and a state-of-the-art infrastructure. This island is now one of the wealthiest countries in the world but you'll be pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the Singapore people's hospitality as well as the array of food and shopping opportunities to get the most of your holiday. Fly into Changi International Airport or cross the bridges from Malaysia then head straight to Chinatown or Little India for a culinary adventure or take a cable car up to Mount Faber for sunset views of the city and harbour below. History buffs might prefer the illuminated Qurans and regional artefacts in the Asian Civilisation Museum followed by a Singapore Sling at the Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel.
