Singapore lies a degree or so above the equator in the South China Sea off the southern tip of Malaysia. Founded as a trading post for the East India Company in 1819, the opium dens and barges of yesteryear have vanished and been replaced with sleek skyscrapers and a state-of-the-art infrastructure. This island is now one of the wealthiest countries in the world but you'll be pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the Singapore people's hospitality as well as the array of food and shopping opportunities to get the most of your holiday. Fly into Changi International Airport or cross the bridges from Malaysia then head straight to Chinatown or Little India for a culinary adventure or take a cable car up to Mount Faber for sunset views of the city and harbour below.
