Cebu is one of the larger provinces of the Philippines, sitting in the middle of this vast collection of islands and neighboured by Negros Island on the west and Leyte on the east. Cebu is known for its limestone plateaus, tropical climate and rugged mountain ranges. The Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan first set foot on Philippine territory here in 1521, and the island's capital Cebu City is the oldest city in the country.

Cebu is a narrow island stretching 225km from north to south. It is surrounded by 167 smaller islands, most of which are uninhabited, making them popular island-hopping destinations for the more adventurous visitor. One of the inhabited islands, connected to Cebu by a road bridge, is tiny Mactan, famous for its coral reefs and beaches. Cebu has all the traditional characteristics of a tropical island, with mountain ranges, crystal blue waters and white sandy beaches. Cebu City is often called the Queen City of the South and is home to historic Spanish buildings such as the Basilica Minore del Santo Nino. The top street attraction in the city is the Sinulog Festival, which culminates on the third Sunday in January with a dazzling Mardi Gras parade and fireworks display.

The following experiences are possible from Cebu. Talk to our expert travel consultants about how to make your holiday extra special:
Cebu City Heritage Voyage of Discovery
Cebu's historical context can be easily found if you cruise along its main thoroughfares. On your way to the Basilica, you should sample some goodies at the Carbon Market, where most of the city's fresh produce is sold. A short walk away is Magellan's Cross; where Christianity was first introduced in Cebu. Why not make your final destination Casa Gorordo (the Parian district in today's downtown area), which was the residential home of Cebu's wealthy at the turn of the century.
Island Swinging Off Cebu's Blue Waters
Why not start your adventure aboard a motorized outrigger canoe to discover the underwater jewels of Cebu's blue waters. Drop anchor for the opportunity to swim and snorkel, and enjoy Cebu's underwater attractions before moving on to a nearby island for a sumptuous lunch.
South Countryside and Rustic Village Escapade
Carcar, an old Spanish town with colonial style houses and a church that dates back to the 18th century must be top of your list if you're interested in rustic charm. Stop by a busy flea market and see how `Chicharon' (pork cracklings) and local `Ampao' (rice crispies) are prepared, then visit stalls and stores involved in the production of shoes, and house and farm implements.
