The drive up to this popular hill station takes you almost 1500m above sea level and a world away from the tropical heat of the Malaysian coasts. You'll find yourself in a cool mountain climate, where mock-Tudor hotels serve Devonshire Teas in the afternoon and Buddhist temples emerge gracefully from the mists.

Cameron Highlands is located on a mountain plateau in the northwest corner of Pahang and developed into a prosperous area when 19th century British planters realised the potential of its fertile mountain slopes for growing tea . Named after the surveyor who first charted the area in 1885, this is primarily an agricultural area and famous for its busy markets selling vegetables, flowers and fruit that won't grow anywhere else in Malaysia. The lush green slopes and valleys are also a big draw for hikers visiting the remote hill tribe villages of the Orang Asli people or following well-marked trails to the top of mountains such as Gunung Pardah.
