Bohol is the 10th largest island in the Philippine archipelago and is closely ringed on all sides by other islands, giving it natural shelter from typhoons, and heavy rain. It is best to visit Bohol in the winter, although its protected position makes Bohol an all-year-round holiday destination. Its neighbouring island of Panglao is home to some of the finest beaches in the country and only a short drive from the Bohol capital, Tagbilaran City.

Reaching Bohol is not difficult by air or ferry, and the oval island has a fine transport infrastructure for getting around. Apart from the white sandy beaches and excellent surrounding dive sites, top of your must-do list on Bohol should be the unforgettable natural wonder of the Chocolate Hills. These giant grassy mounds shaped like molehills range from 30-50 metres high, and earn their name from the colour they turn when the grass dies during the summer. Bohol is also renowned for its exotic wildlife, so don't miss the Rajah Sikatuna National Park to see if you can spot a Philippine Tarictic Hornbill or a tiny Tarsier monkey, the national treasure closely related to the lemur and bushbaby.
